Annual Public Luncheon & Emergency Plan Discussion

September is Readiness Month in Illinois. In recognition and in compliance with the Community-Right-to-Know Act, the Winnebago County Local Emergency Planning Committee announces the 2018 Annual Public Luncheon & Emergency Plan Discussion to be held September 28th at the Prairie Street Brewing Company, 200 Prairie Street in Rockford. Doors will open at 11:15am and lunch will begin at 11:45am.

The featured topic will focus on the awareness and concerns of transporting radioactive material.  Speaking on this topic will be Rodney Pitchford, Health Physicist with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. He has been with the Agency for more than three years and manages the Radiological Field Service (RFS) unit.  The RFS is tasked with: coordinating and conducting inspections of radioactive material shipments; radiological response and investigation of radiation monitor alarms, lost or abandoned sources, and public concerns or complaints; and conducts radiological environmental monitoring around Illinois’ nuclear power stations, radiological waste disposal sites, and the Honeywell Metropolis Works plant in Metropolis, IL.

Also joining Mr. Pitchford will be Chuck Corley, Chairman of the Winnebago County Local Emergency Planning Committee and Deputy Chief Scott Meyers, Director of Emergency Services, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office who will conduct the emergency plan discussion.

Registration is $20 per person and must be received by September 23rd.
